Forum: Under water but over-insured

Flooded-flat-crop.jpg

It’s not often that you hear people complaining about being over-insured but, hey, this is strata and anything can happen.

In a nutshell, an owner installed a nice new timber floor and then his washing machine exploded (check those hoses regularly, folks) flooded the flat and ruined the new floor.

The owner claimed on their home and content insurance but the insurer asked if the floor wasn’t covered by the strata insurance.

Turns out it was so the H&C insurer said they weren’t paying out on a claim that was covered elsewhere.

Why is the strata committee annoyed by this?  You can read the whole story HERE.
