Seminars: Buying trust, minding your block

The biggest mistke you can make in strata is thinking you don't make mistakes

There are two essential seminars coming up in the next few weeks – one online, the other in real life (with added drinks and games) – so get your diaries out.

We have read and written a lot recently about the iCIRT star rating system, designed to sort the best and improving apartment builders from the chancers and no-hopers.

But how exactly does Building Commissioner Chandler’s brainchild ensure you are dealing with trustworthy building professionals?

OCN are hosting a webinar on iCIRT ratings on April 27 at 1pm where they will discuss with ratings agency Equifax how market-led mechanisms such as iCIRT are offering significant consumer protection when purchasing a property.

As part of this conversation, they will be joined by Mark Monk from Helm Properties who will outline how important it has become for developers to go the extra mile to gain the customer trust that iCIRT promises.

That’s April 27 at 1pm (Sydney time) and you can register HERE.

Bannermans Building Series, Part 1

We spend a lot of time in these pages talking about the micropolitics of managing, so much so that we tend to forget about the nuts and bolts of the building in which we live.

However, as owners we have a legal responsibility to maintain and repair the fabric of the building, even if we don’t know the difference between a joist and a girder.

Hence the thrust of Bannerman lawyers’ three-part seminar series on buildings.

“A key obligation of a managing agent for a Class 2 building is placing work orders for repairs of various parts of the building,” the say in their promo.

Bannermans say the key takeaways from part 1 will see experts explain the essentials of Fire Measures, Metal Roofs and Wall Cladding.

The plan is to help owners, strata managers and building managers:

  • Understand what materials are used for fire measures, metal roofs and wall cladding to assist them in placing more suitable quote requests.
  • Understand the typical defects in these materials during design or construction of a Class 2 building.
  • Learn the relevant key changes to the Australian Standards, BCA or NCC which could cause remedial works for these materials to be different to the original works in order to achieve today’s compliance with the relevant planning approvals and the Design & Building Practitioners Act 2020.

Plus more!

SPEAKERS IN PART 1 will include:

• Allan Harriman, Jensen Hughes: Fire Measures

• Ben Duncan, CJ Duncan: Metal roofing and wall cladding

• David Bannerman, Bannermans Lawyers: Planning approval and Design and Building Practitioners Act compliance.
