Ever wondered if there’s a better way of managing dysfunctional committees or disruptive committee members? Would an organisational psychologists’ advice help?

How about keeping up with changes to strata law, dealing with dubious defences against damp-related defect claims, or coping with climate change in older buildings?

If any of these thoughts have ever troubled you, you’ll want to be at the inaugural 2024 Strata Impact Conference at The Langham, Gold Coast on August 1 and 2.

This is no ordinary strata conference. Hosted by Strata Knowledge, this event will be a gathering of research visionaries, thought leaders, and innovators in the strata sector.

“Research and education will be at the heart of this two-day event, which is guaranteed to ignite creativity, foster collaboration and ultimately, build knowledge,” say organisers.

And yours truly, JimmyT, will be MC of the event, keeping things moving along in what will be information and opinion-packed two days. Registrations are open, tickets are selling fast and you’ll need to sign up before June 14 to grab an early bird discount.

The inspired (and inspiring) line-up of speakers and presentations includes:

  • Professor Cathy Sherry – Houses aren’t the only homes: Reconceiving strata title.
  • Dr Tim Law – Taming the four-dog defence in moisture-related strata defects
  • Dr Sarah Foster – Grand designs: The policy and practice of designing healthy apartments
  • Rob Newman (Organisation Psychologist) – Dysfunctional personalities in meetings and how to manage them
  • Dr NicoleJohnston – A broken system: examining the fire protection risks in apartment buildings
  • Dr Rupa Ganguli – Chameleons in the city: project marketers and their power to shape new strata building outcomes
  • Stephen Thornton and Brendan Jakubenko  – Digital condition assessments of strata buildings
  • Professor Hazel Easthope – Green Dreams: Realising sustainable living inAussie apartments
  • Dr Paul Matthews – Climate adaptation and thermal comfort in older apartments
  • Bruce McKenzie – topic to be confirmed (but will be brilliant, it sez here).

There will also be a couple of high-powered panels in this day-and-a-half stratafest.

Panel 1: Jurisdictional legal review with Allison Benson, Susan Proctor, Jessica Cannon, Tim Graham, Mark Atkinson

Panel 2: Risk Management in Strata with Paul Keating, Nicole Wilde and Michael Kleinschmidt
