Forum: Blindsided by a sneaky committee coup

It’s a classic strata committee coup: on the TV show Survivor, it would be called a blindside.

Obviously, someone in our Flatchatter’s strata scheme didn’t like the way things were run, or the people who were running it.

They couldn’t risk the same people being voted on to the committee and then electing the usual suspects as office-bearers. So they pulled a swifty and quite legally had the number of committee members reduced from eight to five.

That meant there had to be an election and, lo and behold, the previous office-bearers didn’t get enough votes.

How does that work?  Let’s say, hypthetically, that the previous committee comprised all the owners who wanted to be on it.  And let’s say the dominant group had five committee votes to the others’ three.

They could then elect whomever they wanted as chair and secretary. But then, this time around, no one was paying attention when the committee was reduced from eight to five.

And at the ensuing election the dominant group doesn’t get enough votes and they are suddenly in a minority of two against three.

Result, new office-bearers and the previous incumbents have a year in which to lick their wounds and plot a comeback.

If they want to polish up their tactics, they could do worse than watch Survivor Australia, which is currently on Channel 10 and Tenplay).  You can read about the real not-quite-bloodless coup HERE

How to ask and answer questions

Anyone can read our posts any time but you have to be registered to ask or answer questions. However, there are several easy ways you can search, access, ask questions and reply to others’ queries once you have registered.
The best way these days may be to click on “Forum: Your Qs & A’s” on the top menu bar on a computer screen or on the drop-down menu (three lines) on the right of the screen on phones and tablets, under the Strata Choice ad. Then click on the topic title that interests you, and off you go.
Alternatively, you can look at the list of “Your latest questions and answers” under the ads on the right of the page on a computer screen. Or at the bottom, after the ads and stories, on a tablet or phone.
Or you can go “old school” and go to the Forum Home Page and work your way through the topics there. Whichever route you take to get there, the best way to keep up to speed with what’s happening is to register (if you haven’t already done so), then login and subscribe for free to the topics that interest you most.
That way you’ll get an alert whenever the discussion moves forward, and you can also chip in with your own comments and questions. Have a look HERE at our instant guide to getting online.
