Great Escapes: Northern delight, epic Arctic cruise

For hundreds of years explorers and traders who wanted to get from the Atlantic ports in Europe and North-East America, to the Pacific Ocean had two major obstacles in their way – Africa and America.

So there was a fascination with one semi-mythical alternative to sailing round the southern tip of those continents – the Northwest Passage through ice floes over the top of Canada and Alaska.

Before the advent of icebreaker steam ships, many hundreds of sailors in sailing ships perished trying to find the way through before winter ice closed in.

Now you can follow in the wake of those who found and completed the passage on board Adventure Canada’s 198-passenger, eco-friendly Ocean Endeavour

The adventure, stopping off to visit Inuit villages and spot polar bears, walrus and muskox, begins in Vancouver on September 11, 2024.

It isn’t cheap but if you book now you can save up to $8000 per person.  Click here for more details.
